I don't think many people really knew how thoughtful, sensitive or intricately compassionate Steve really was.  He often had a very hard time expressing himself and would just kind of go in every direction trying to get his point across.  He never let on to people that he read Robert Frost or Isaac Asimov or researched long and hard on topics that were serious and meaningful to him.  I ran across a book in Steve's office titled "Wise Words and Quotes" by Vern McLellan.  Throughout the book, Steve had earmarked or highlighted specific quotes, sayings or scripture which either had great meaning to him or in some cases related to experiences in his life.  There were also several highlights which I think just tickled that devilish little funny bone of his.
